Peter Firth was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, in 1953.
Firth returned to the play at the Plymouth Theater on Broadway with Richard Burton as Dysart, and then starred in several other plays by the National Theatre including versions of "Romeo and Juliet" (as Romeo) and "Spring Awakening".
Firth has appeared onscreen fairly regularly since then, most notably in the well-received but scarcely seen Letter to Brezhnev (1985) and the smash hit The Hunt for Red October (1990).

Equus is a play by Peter Shaffer which tells the story of a psychiatrist who attempts to treat a young man who has a pathological fascination with horses.
Equus was originally staged on Broadway in the early 1970s starring Anthony Hopkins as psychiatrist Martin Dysart and Peter Firth Alan Strang, the patient.
The play was made into a 1977 film which stars Richard Burton, Peter Firth, Colin Blakely, Joan Plowright and Jenny Agutter.
