  Peter Gregson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Professor Peter Gregson is the current Vice-Chancellor of the Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland taking over from Sir George Bain in August 2004.
Gregson is a graduate of Imperial College London and before joining Queen's University he spent much of his career at the University of Southampton, England as a member of the academic staff.
Gregson's background is in engineering and is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland and the Royal Academy of Engineering.

 Peter Gregson
Born in 1957, Professor Gregson graduated with a first-class degree in Materials Science at Imperial College London and went on to earn a PhD before being appointed to the academic staff at the University of Southampton.
Appointed to a personal Chair in 1996, he was awarded the prestigious Rosenhain Medal and Prize of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining the same year, and elected a Fellow of the Institute in 1998.
He was appointed to the governing body of one of the UK’s most important research organisations – the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils – in 2003.

Queen's University Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Gregson has called on policy-makers worldwide to "claim a space for democracy" in the global telecommunications revolution.
Professor Gregson was addressing a gathering of leading thinkers from around the world at the 7th Olympiad of the Mind - the intellectual counterpart to the Olympic Games - in Paris at the weekend.
In the opening address, entitled "A Shrinking World - A Growing Challenge?", Professor Gregson urged the information communications industry internationally to tackle the economic and other challenges arising from spam and cybercrime.

The above photograph shows the Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Gregson and Professor Vincent Fusco, director of SoCaM, inside the Centre's anechoic chamber which is used to measure radiation patterns of microwave antennas being developed for use in mobile communications.
SoCaM has also been credited with the creation of technology which has resulted in the development of the world’s highest performance spatial filter for use in advanced space borne pollution monitoring equipment.
Speaking at today's SoCaM launch, Queen’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Gregson said: "As a major interdisciplinary project which has already attracted leading researchers from around the world, the Centre will contribute to major advances in a number of areas which are strategically important to the development of future high performance electronic chips."

A group of visiting journalists was briefed by Britain’s minister for Africa and took a rare tour around the Foreign Ministry during a Reuters Foundation workshop in London in October.
The group visited the BBC World Service and met senior journalists, attended a press conference given by Thoraya Obaid, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, on World Population Day and took part in a working lunch at the European Commission offices in London.
During the two week workshop under the direction of former Reuters correspondents Paul Iredale and Peter Gregson, the journalists also worked through exercises designed to reinforce basic styles, using colour and background, writing leads, sourcing and balance.
