Peter McGill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Peter McGill (August 1789 – September 28, 1860) was a Scots-Quebecer businessman who served as mayor of Montreal, Canada East from 1840 to 1842.
McGill held a seat in the Legislative Council of Lower Canada from 1832 to 1838, the Special Council of Lower Canada from 1838 to 1841, and the Legislative Council of the United Provinces from 1841 to 1860.
On his passing in 1860, Peter McGill was interred in Montreal's Mount Royal Cemetery.

 Dictionary of Canadian Biography Online
The activities of McGill’s partnership were further complicated, for the evidence overwhelmingly suggests that, while the Quebec operations concentrated on the wood trades, the Montreal office was principally an import house.
McGill’s house was responsible for 1.56 per cent of the total exports of this commodity through the St Lawrence in 1825.
Thus, although McGill held high political office, it was always as an appointed official, a fact that bears witness more to the importance of his business connections and those of the Bank of Montreal than to any particularly strong political character of the man himself.
