Topic: Peter Pan (1953 movie)

Peter Pan, Movie Review, by Mark Bales
Peter Pan is different from any other version because it is the first time the story has been imagined in live-action for the big screen.
Peter Pan is such an enigma: children love the story because of the adventure, but they are not mature enough to understand that they should appreciate their childhood as much as they can.
Peter Pan appeals to adults as well: adults used to be children, and while they remember some childhood fun, much is forgotten.

 DVDFILE.COM: Peter Pan (1953) review
Peter Pan is the story of the boy from Neverland who refuses to grow up.
Peter Pan is not one of my favorites among the Disney animated films, not because it's not an okay film in its own right (it is), but because it's such a watered-down version of J.M. Barrie's marvelous play (and the later stage musical version of the play, which is available on DVD from Goodtimes).
One note: at the beginning of the movie, right after the title appears on screen, there is a note from Disney thanking the Hospital for Sick Children in London, to which Barrie benevolently donated the copyright (and thereby the proceeds) for Peter Pan.

Peter Pan isn't a perfect film; it can drag a little at times (especially when Hook's not onscreen) and to call its portrayal of the Indians as less-than-politically-correct would be an understatement.
Peter Pan appears in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.37:1 on this single-sided, single-layered DVD; the image has not been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.
Peter Pan is one of Disney's absolute best animated features, and it remains a complete delight almost 50 years after its initial release.

Peter, who allegedly is emotion-challenged because he never wants to grow up, sees no reason to cherish the thought of kiss by the budding Wendy, played by a gifted thirteen-year-old in a debut performance as a girl of about eleven.
As Peter goes through his age-old ritual of unfreezing the pirate ship, he thrusts his group, which now includes Wendy's brothers, into the most exciting days of their lives.
Wendy never does convince Peter to give up his childhood, which she insists is bereft of love and therefore doom Peter to a live of aloneness.

Peter Pan may be a boy who refuses to grow up, but his movie is really one of Disney's most adult "kids'" films.
Peter Pan, the character, has of course become a timeless entity, and in the end, the messages that there's a time for fantasy and a time reality and that all good things must come to an end, are fair value statements for the kids.
Deconstruct Peter Pan for yourself now that it's finally been issued to DVD, a typical Disney special edition that includes a commentary from Roy Disney and archival comments from Walt Disney and his animation team, extra footage, a few making-of featurettes, and plenty of pixie dust for the kids.
