In watching Death Hunt (I dislike that title, and I think it was probably chosen due to the popularity of Bronson's 1974 film Death Wish), I couldn't help notice the similarities with the Sylvester Stallone film First Blood (1982), released a year later.
Directed by James Bond veteran Peter Hunt, who after working as an editor on the first few 007 pictures was promoted to director of the fan favorite ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE and went on to direct such classics as GOLD and SHOUT AT THE DEVIL.
Hunt is an expert at building suspense and a master at drama - and DEATH HUNT have both those elements in plentiful supply.

Blofeld actually speaks here of unappreciated pioneers, and we have to do with a film not unlike Dinner at the Ritz in the scale of its rapidity, its less than adequate reception, and its genius.
Diana Rigg is the ideal wife of “a double-nought spy.” Telly Savalas and Gabriele Ferzetti “are (you may say) satisfactory.” Lazenby is no Connery, you add, and who is Peter Hunt?
In keeping with his style, Hunt’s allusions are short and sweet and to the point of evanescence: North by Northwest, The Big Sleep, The 39 Steps, Young at Heart, Reign of Terror (or The Black Book), etc.

 Peter Hunt
Peter Hunt was perhaps one of the most integral members of the James Bond team, using his vast skills as a film editor and director to help create a pace and style that helped to launch a phenomenon that still touches the world some two and a half decades after the film series began.
I did, however, get a beautiful review from Pauline Kael on that, who said, "The one thing missing from this film is Peter Hunt" [laughs].
So each time he came to me, I couldn't do it for one reason or another, although I would have liked to, therefore the cycle broke, as it were.
