Peter Tosh (October 9, 1944 – September 11, 1987) was a pioneer reggae musician.
Tosh became bitter with his ex-bandmate, claiming that the only reason Marley was so successful was that his father was white, although it should be noted that Peter was known for having a big mouth and was not always to be taken too seriously in his pronouncements.
Tosh was in the beginning of an entire restructuring of his career when, shortly after the release of his 1987 album, No Nuclear War, Tosh was murdered at his own home during a burglary.

Peter left the peaceful country of Westmoreland parish for the deadly slums of Trenchtown, Kingston at the age of 15.
Peter did not trust Blackwell (who he referred to as "Whiteworst") and was resentful that Bob was being pushed to the front of the band and he and Bunny were relegated to background singer status for much of the album.
Tosh released a total of three albums on the label, the first of which, Bush Doctor, was released in 1978.

Peter was a fantastic guitarist and he really showcases his talents during the promotional appearances, strumming soft chords in smoky environments, a big cone sized spliff resting comfortably on Peter's lower lip, taking a draw on occasion.
Peter sings meaningfully "The rich mans wealth is in the shity" he then begins to pick up the pace and another great instrumental break showcases his talents as a guitarist and the tune closes to an end.

Equal Rights is a pretty good example of why Peter Tosh doesn't do a lot for me. Even though he has a thick, distinctive voice, many of his songs just aren't that appealing, as they lack either strong melodies or strong musical hooks.
Correctly, Tosh felt that Bob Marley's music did not necessarily teach the entire message of Rastafari, so he tried repeatedly throughout his career to get the same exposure, though he failed.
Tosh has his detractors, and although I'm a big fan, I can understand the complaints that he's more suited to harmony vocals than lead...but Peter Tosh is the kind of singer that NEEDS to be heard live.
