Whetstone Cemetery is located right on the corner of Madison Avenue and CR 350S and is across the street from the Whetstone Church.
The Whetstone Cemetery expanded in accordance with the needs of the faithful who wished to be interred near their place of worship.
One of their daughters, Sarah, is in a picture on the Madison County history page with her husband John Hull and their eight children in front of their log house located only one and a half miles southeast of the church.

In 1843-44 a gristmill was added to the ever-growing cluster and later run by Peter (sometimes listed as James) Bieber, who then replaced the wooden building with a sturdy stone structure and operated both a sawmill and a gristmill at the same time.

In 1838 Peter Whetstone, the founder of Marshall, obtained a grant in Harrison County under a first-class certificate, a fact that signified he was a married man and a resident of Texas at the time of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
In 1841, as an inducement to the commissioners who were to locate a site for the county seat of Harrison County, he offered land for a church and a school and 190 city lots.
Whetstone's grave is unmarked, but tradition locates it on Southwest Road off Westend Boulevard, near his homesite west of Marshall.

Peter Hockenberry was a noted hunter, who located on the northwest quarter of Section 19, in 1832.
Peter Heller, of Wayne County, Ohio, settled on the southeast quarter of Section 25, in 1833, and the same year was elected justice of Portage Township, and re-elected in 1836.

The Whetstone Community Millennium Group decided some time ago that a commemorative mug could be given to every Whetstone resident of primary school age and below – that is, children who are 11 years old and below on 31st August 2000.
Peter's and Badgerbrook Primary Schools elected May Kings and Queens, who travelled in style by horse and carriage and vintage car (breaking-down twice).
This was the first May Day Carnival in Whetstone for almost fifty years, lets hope we can build on its success and make it an annual event again.
