  Petit Palais
The Petit Palais was constructed for the Universal Exposition of 1900 by architect Charles Giralut (1851-1932).
The Petit Palais was officially inaugurated on December 11, 1902, as the Palais des Beaux Arts de la Ville de Paris, the Palace of Fine Arts of the City of Paris.
The different categories of the collections on exhibit in the permanent collection of the Petit Palais are: Paris 1900; the 19th Century; the 18th Century; the 17th Century; the Renaissance; the Christian World in the West; the Christian World in the East; Roman and Greek Antiquities.

One can already clearly identify the site where “Petit Palais” is today on a map of Milan by Bonvesin de la Riva (who lived between 13th and 14th century), where it is shown as a building facing the “Naviglio” with its longer and the Corso San Celso, nowadays Corso Italia, with its shorter wing.
During the “conservative restoration” in order to create the “Petit Palais”, which took five years and has been carried out under the supervision of the Archaeological Superintendence, various traces of such past interventions have been found, up to the modern restoring due to the events of the last war.
“Petit Palais”: a small, antique palace, once overlooking the “Naviglio”-channels inner ring which has been covered and is today known as the “Cerchia dei Navigli”, a building that has been carefully refurbished to its former splendour as a “residence of charm”.
