| | All hail the king ... Petit Verdot? |
 | | The Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) released recommended grape prices to guide growers in contracting grapes for 2005, and while most price ranges are steady to about $100 per ton higher than they were in 2004, the recommendation for Petit Verdot is an eye-popping $4,300 to $6,000 per ton -- higher than any other varietal. |
 | | Cabernet Sauvignon, thought to be king of Napa Valley, is second at $3,900 to $4,800. |
 | | "The recommended price for Petit Verdot does not necessarily represent a long-term sustainable price, since it could be easily affected by relatively small changes in production or winery demand," says NVG president Eric Titus. |
