I have been told by two "oldtimers" about something they were calling palmwood.
As I understand it might be ancient palmtrees which have undergone some type of replacement, however the elderly gentlemen I spoke with did not describe it as petrified wood.
As I understand it might be quite valuable and was wondering if it would be worth the effort to try and find the localities that the oldtimers remembered.

I don't know the specifics, but perhaps I can head you in a direction.
There are a number of petrified palmwood sites in Texas and Arkansas, as well as in Mississippi.
In fact in Miss., there is a state park which was established as a result of the Oligocene "petrified forest".
