Peugeot 207 - pics of the CC and SW
Peugeot isn't new to such model number jumps, and in this case it is said that the reason is to "mark the start of a new generation with a new stylistic identity".
Peugeot must have some surprise in store, since everything seems to point to the 207/208 not being much of an esthetic novelty compared to the 206 (except for the family feeling "big mouth", already seen on the 407 and 307).

The 207 will also see the introduction of a number of new innovative features, such as static directional headlamps, which make it easier to identify a pedestrian about to cross the road when driving in town, or a cyclist riding at the side of the road.
The 207 is also one of the first vehicles to be designed to meet the requirements of the new European directive concerning pedestrian impact protection.

Proudly exhibiting the sporty credentials of the 207 and taking them to a new level, the 207 RCup concept car appears to be "glued to the road" with its lower ground clearance reduced to ten centimeters.
On opening the door, all becomes clear: the 207 RCup follows the design requirements of the Rally Super 2000 category with its single compartment chassis and its tubular rollover cage protecting the vital space for the driver and the co-driver, who sit in competition bucket seats securely retained by four-point harnesses.
The interior of the 207 RCup retains the same "wave-style" fascia panel and the motorcycle dials of the instrument panel found on the original 207.

I'm 6ft and the Peugeot 206 is driving purgatory, fitting where it touches with a curious and uncomfortably offset driving position.
Peugeot hasn't always managed to do all three at the same time, but the 207 goes further in combining Peugeot's traditional strengths in one car than anything it has made since the 205.

The importance to Peugeot of the new 207, which arrives in the UK this summer, can hardly be overstated.
Once the 207 goes on sale here, it will be one of four cars the company is attempting to market in the B segment.
One of these is the 206, which will continue to be sold alongside the next-generation model; Peugeot says the new car "will succeed but not replace the 206", but that's a familiar trick which both Peugeot and its sister company Citroen have used before.

Peugeot Aims for WRC with 207 RCup Concept - Cars - Blogs.ca
The subcompact 207 is one of Peugeot’s most important cars, hands down, no exceptions.
Though the 207 is a subcompact no larger than the Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit, it’s got some enormous shoes to fill, as the 206, the car that it replaces, was the most popular car in the French firm’s near 100 year history.
To bolster the effort, Peugeot will also be presenting the 207 RCup (playing off the name of the performance version of the 206 called the RC), a preview at the WRC-spec rally car that will be hitting the Special Stages in far off lands sometime next year.

 4Car Feature - Peugeot 207 (2006-) - from Channel 4
If they did, Peugeot wouldn't have preceded the unveiling of its new 207 with a film featuring graphics of flashing and floating sixes and sevens merging into one.
However, the film might actually be a fitting metaphor for the new model, which Peugeot says, doesn't replace the 206 but succeeds it.
It's easy to see why Peugeot is reluctant to let go of the 206, however: it's been the company's best-selling model ever, with over 5.3m produced since launch in 1998.

Peugeot says that the concept car will inspire the forthcoming racecar the French company will campaign in the Le Mans Endurance Series, though that car is highly unlikely to be a three-wheeler!
Though quite exaggerated, it is probable that the 207 will feature the sculpted, low bonnet of the 20Cup concept car, including the protruding leading edge, inspired by the shape of endurance racers no doubt.
The full-width grille is a certainty for the 207, though if it follows the lead of the concept it should look more cohesive than the new 307.
