Michael Attard Ltd - Peugeot 306
In order to bring the interior style up to date, the inside of the 306 has changed and now comprises metallic finishes on certain parts which are often handled, such as the gear lever knob which has a chrome insert, the brake lever release button, the ventilation grid controls and the automatic gearbox control fascia.
All the 306 HDi, moreover, are equipped as standard with two new front airbags, optimised to ensure bag - occupant connection as long as possible in the event of impact.
The 306, which has won the hearts of 2,200,000 buyers, has brought up to date and boosted with the recently-incorporated HDi engine and is condensing its range in the new millennium.

Peugeot 306 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Peugeot 306 is a small family car built by the French car manufacturer Peugeot from 1993 to 2001.
The 306 is mechanically almost identical to the Citroën ZX, which was launched two years earlier, and both cars use the same floorpan and core structure.
Peugeot had a very good reputation for its diesel engines, and the 306 was offered with the XUD series diesel engine in both normally aspirated and turbocharged, intercooled guise.

Inside the Peugeot 306 is spacious and comfy, with well a well designed non-fussy interior and sensibly arranged controls and a roomy boot.
Peugeot's reputation for producing leading diesel engines is clearly upheld on the 306 and if you are looking for a reliable used car, you should seriously consider a Peugeot 306.
The outstanding fuel consumption and long-lasting high quality engines of the Peugeot 306, combined with the low insurance group that most models come into, mean that it is cost efficient to run, making it an all round great deal as a cheap used car.

 The Peugeot 306
When first launched, Peugeot’s 306 came with a choice of five engines - three petrol units, a 1·4, a 1·6 and a 1·8 (all eight valve engines) and two diesels, the “atmo” 1·9d and the turbocharged 1·9d-tc.
When the Peugeot 306 was first released, many people commented that the interior was a bit of a disappointment.
The 306 is equipped on a par with most of the competition, but in most cases, notably less than the Citroen ZX / Xsara (which is a car made of essentially the same bits).

The 306 is identical mechanically to the Citroën ZX, which was launched two years earlier, and both cars use the same floorpan and core structure.

Peugeot 309 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 309 was not intended to replace Peugeot's own 305 model, but the out of step model number – the next small family car after the 305 should have been named "306" – was intended to distance it from the 305 in the marketplace.
The 309 was also significant in that it was the first Peugeot car to be assembled in the former Rootes factory in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, which Peugeot had inherited from Chrysler Europe in 1978.
In 1991 Peugeot gradually phased in their all-new belt-driven TU overhead camshaft engines, a development of the XU series, in 1124 cc and 1360 cc forms, eventually replacing the Simca units during 1992.

Peugeot 306 didn't appear to be running to badly other than sounding slightly ragged at low speed, but it was only doing around 20 to the gallon, and felt a little rough on low speed acceleration.
Tuning checks showed the exhaust gas to be much to rich, but because this was a catalyst equipped model this should not be possible as if the engine did produce too rich a mixture then the catalyst should clean it up to produce a clean exhaust from it.

The Peugeot 306 has been sold in Australia for over five years, and continues to be available as the middle ground between the current 206 and 406 models.
Performance-wise the 1115kg 306 5-speed feels quicker than it's quoted as being - Peugeot suggest it covers the quarter mile in 18.0 seconds and accelerates from 0 to 100 in 11.6 seconds (although we timed it in the mid 10s).

However, when the radical and dominant Focus was launched in 1998, the 306 was not even in the same league as the Ford and the car was now 5 years old with a replacement still 3 years away.
And this is the reason for the SW's existence; Peugeot did not develop a compact MPV spin-off like Citroën did with the Xsara Picasso, instead preferring to offer a more flexible version of its estate but maintaining the style and road manners of an estate.
With the 306 being the best car in its class when it was launched in 1993, journalists had very high hopes for the 307, especially as nearly all previous Peugeots in the 1980s and 1990s came high in many road tests when launched, centering mainly on their excellent chassis.

If you agree that the 306 was one of the extraordinary successes in motorcar history (well, at least in modern era), then expecting its successor to repeat that success may be too greedy, or even too optimistic to certain extent.
