Peyto Lake is a glacier fed lake located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies.
The lake itself is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway.

High above the Bow Summit Lookout it is very windy but the view north along the Rocky Mountain Trench is incredible.
Peyto Lake stretches out below you in the great U-shaped valley.
The lake is fed by the runoff from the Peyto Glacier which lies about 5km to the south of the lake above a rock wall that only climbers can scale.

Rock flower(glacial silt) in the water reflects short wave light which is blue or greenish blue giving the lake its beautiful colour.
People often say that the shape of the lake looks like a bear fur rug.
Note: Due to snow accumulation the upper parking lot of peyto Lake is closed usually until the beginning of June.

After crossing the lake with a bit of a headwind, we started skiing up the moraine and had lunch behind the moraine between some trees.
Peyto hut has been renovated just last summer and is now an absolutely beautiful hut with an extra fore room, lots of windows, new propane stoves, and lamps and a very fancy outhouse.
It afforded a spectacular view of Hector Lake to the west and a fabulous panorama of numerous peaks to the north.
