Phantasy Star Collection (Gameboy Advance) Review at RewiredMind.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Phantasy Star is one such franchise; having brought many features to the RPG genre through it’s various incarnations across the Master System, Mega Drive and Dreamcast.
Phantasy Star 1 & 2 are standard RPG fare these days, however, at the time they were truly revolutionary, bringing in the turn based battles, pseudo 3D dungeon exploration and terrific, lengthy plot arcs, not to mention one of the largest environments ever squeezed on to a cartridge for you to explore.
Phantasy Star 2 ups the difficulty level a notch further, and the dungeons will have you weeping at points, but in both games you always manage to make it through and progression is possibly more rewarding because of it.

As with the rest of the Genesis-era Phantasy Star series, movement is viewed from above, and in combat the enemies are viewed head-on from behind the party.
An interesting plot device in Phantasy Star 4 is the android characters; most Techniques don't work on them, so they can only heal themselves (though they do regenerate while walking), and they have no techniques of their own, nor do they gain Skills with Levels — you have to find "attachment" pieces for them.
When all's said and done, Phantasy Star: The End Of The Millennium is a somewhat easy game that relies more heavily on its characters and plot than the need to level constantly to move the story along.
