Indian company Sun Pharmaceuticals has announced it will acquire Israeli firm Taro Pharmaceutical Industries in a $454 million deal; the move, a component of Sun's plan to establish itself in the lucrative US Drug Market.
The firm expects to announce a heavy loss for 2006, stemming from figures from the previous year, showing its profits to be around a fifth of the $298 million sales.
Commenting on the takeover, Sun's Chairman Dilip Shanghvi, estimates that it will take up to 18 months to reverse Taro's losing trend and "...make it more profitable than what it is now".
