Pharmacia, founded in 1911, was originally a government-owned Swedish pharmaceutical company.
The merged company "Pharmacia and Upjohn" was there after bought by the American bioindustry and medical company Monsanto.
In January 16, 2006, Pharmacia Diagnostics announced that its name was changed to Phadia, which has ended the use of the Pharmacia trademark.
