  CTM: Frequency Response Tutorial
The frequency response is defined as the magnitude and phase differences between the input and output sinusoids.
The frequency is on a logarithmic scale, the phase is given in degrees, and the magnitude is given as the gain in decibels.
The phase margin is the difference in phase between the phase curve and -180 deg at the point corresponding to the frequency that gives us a gain of 0dB (the gain cross over frequency, Wgc).

 Phase Response
The phase of the frequency response is called the phase response.
The phase response is a good way to look at short filter delays which are not directly perceivable as causing an ``echo''.
We will show later that the impulse response is also given by the inverse z transform of the filter transfer function (or, equivalently, the inverse Fourier transform of the filter frequency response).

In this typical phase-inaccurate loudspeaker step response that is a measurement summing tweeter and woofer response, we see the tweeter initially rising with the input voltage (figure 4), but the woofer that is lagging by 180 degrees contributes the rapid falling immediately afterwards (figure 4), resulting in a totally mangled step response.
Phase is easily audible as it is being changed, such as with a component frequency in a complex waveform.
A phase alteration of 180 degrees in high frequencies from a 2nd order crossover would not seem to have any effect on the angle of location, as both sound sources (loudspeakers) are equally effected, yielding no differences in phase between the two ears.

I interpret this result to mean that a flat phase response is a meaningful goal for a sound system, even if it may not be the most important goal.
Note: If the phase of the 400 Hz tone is shifted by 180 degrees, after one cycle of the 400 Hz tone it just repeats, but the 200 Hz tone has undergone a 180 degree phase shift.
