The analysis contained a large sample of Phaseoleae and Millettieae, and not surprisingly showed both tribes to be polyphyletic.
However, large clades were identified that were primarily composed of members of each tribe, suggesting that groups largely corresponding to these taxa could be defined, with suitable inclusion of such groups as Desmodieae and Psoraleeae, which were nested within Phaseoleae.
Within Phaseoleae, subtribes Kennediinae, Cajaninae, Diocleinae, and Clitoriinae were supported as monophyletic, whereas Erythrininae, Glycininae, and Phaseolinae were not.

Restriction map variation has been assayed in the slowly evolving chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) inverted repeat regions of 43 genera of the large and economically important legume tribe Phaseoleae and representatives of several allied tribes.
Plastomes of several genera belonging to subtribes considered basal within Phaseoleae have as their sister groups plastomes of non-Phaseoleae tribes, notably Millettieae, the tribe considered to represent the ancestral stock from which diverse elements of Phaseoleae were derived.

Abstract: Erythrina L. (Leguminosac: Phaseoleae) is a pantropical genus of over 100 species, all of which are either hummingbird or passerine pollinated.
Active αAI was present in taxa from the Phaseolus vulgaris-P coccineus complex (P vulgaris, P. coccineus, and P polyanthus), as well as in P acutifolius in accordance with previous molecular data separating these groups of species from others in the genus.
The presence of αAI is not exclusive of the genus Phaseolus as one of the Vigna species sampled, V linearis, also contained α-amylase inhibitory activity.

Molecular phylogenies demonstrate that the predominantly Old World tribes Millettieae and Phaseoleae together form a distinct clade in Papilionoideae, even though both are para- or polyphyletic individually.
Phylogenies based on chloroplast rbcL, matK, and nuclear ITS strongly support the monophyly of Millettieae/Phaseoleae clade, which also includes tribes Abreae, Desmodieae, and Psoraleeae.
The phylogenies suggest that characters of the inflorescence, cytology, and non-protein amino acids provide clear phylogenetic information, where as fruit types usually obscure the relationships in these groups.
