The spread of HIV/Aids had led to a significant drop in the population of Phayao province, Deputy Public Health Minister Surapong Suebwonglee said yesterday.
The population of the northern province had been falling since 1998 due to the rate of Aids infections among residents, particularly those of working age, he said.
The two northern provinces have experienced the highest rates of Aids infections in the country, with a total of 23,502 known cases.
