	UFO (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		UFO was a transitional band between the rock of Led Zeppelin and the metal to come in the NWOBHM.
		UFO's influence was strongly felt in the '80s metal scene and they have been cited as a primary influence by Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth among others.
		UFO's early work was influenced by the space rock sound (their second album was subtitled "One Hour Space Rock") that was modestly popular at the time but the band realized the style was somewhat limited.

		As UFO albums go, Phenomenon is only an average release, but based on the previous hippy trip albums that the group had produced, it deserves high praise indeed.
		UFO had a lot of things going for them- a cool name, great-looking album sleeves, one of the finest heavy rock guitarists ever, plenty of street cred and an unbroken suite of 5 classic albums in the 70s.

		"Phenomenon" was the first UFO album to feature young teenage guitarist Michael Schenker, however, the band did not totally shake loose the space rock trash of their first two studio efforts.
		This being said, however, "Phenomenon" features two of the band's most classic cuts in "Doctor Doctor" and Schenker's awesome "Rock Bottom." I suppose this album would have been considered the band's crossover album or their "transitional period." "Built for Comfort" is a Willie Dixon blues number.
		UFO are another of those bands that I never see in the used cd bins, so when I saw this copy for $5.99, I decided to give it a try, despite my weariness to buy another "reunion" cd.

		At this point in their career the band had nothing to lose and everything to gain and come across as swaggering but never cocky.
		Listening to this recording it can be said that UFO had their collective foot on the first rung of the ladder and as such the only way was up.
		It was only to take just three years before UFO were seemingly at the top of the tree, however those three years took their toll on Michael Schenker who despite several returns to the band in the future was to move on to a sometimes successful solo career.
