Drexler the University of Houston, where, alongside Hakeem Olajuwon and Larry Micheaux, he made up the "Phi Slamma Jamma" basketball fraternity, known for the aerial exploits of its members.
"Phi Slama Jama" is credited as being the original dunkadelic team of college basketball.
He was selected a surprisingly low 14th overall in the 1983 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers.

Olajuwon was arguably one of the best centers to ever play, alongside Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Patrick Ewing and David Robinson as the best pivots in basketball history.
Olajuwon was born Akeem in Nigeria, and played college ball at the University of Houston, teaming with Clyde Drexler to form Phi Slama Jamma.
He was considered the top amateur prospect in the summer of 1984 over fellow collegians and future NBA stars Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and John Stockton, and was selected first overall by the Houston Rockets.

I remember I was buying some shoes on the day of the final - and I told my coach that NC State was going to shock the world against Houston.
However, you HAVE to admit - that Houston/Louisville semi-final (where Phi Slamma Jamma was in full force) was one of the most amazing games (albeit a rout) for athleticism at the college level to ever be seen.
I heard a motivational message from Valvano called Looking for Someone to Hug - he explains why at the end of the final game he is running around like he does not know what to do.
