Phil Keaggy, born March 23, 1951, is a guitarist and vocalist.
In February 1970, Phil's mother was involved in a fatal car accident.
Keaggy was signed to the Contemporary Christian music label Sparrow Records in the 1980s, where he released a string of albums including Town To Town, Ph'lip Side, and Play Thru Me.

As usual, the parts of Keaggy's tunes don't match right; a good exercise for Phil and some outside producer would be to try to shuffle the solid pop pieces differently so that a refrain is matched with a verse or a middle that it can flow into or out of.
Keaggy's point about the label not letting him do the album he wants to do is a good one.
Keaggy is at the stage in his career where he shouldn't have to prove his salability to them.

Keaggy, who currently uses a variety of effects such as looping processors, said his earliest "effect" was simply a Les Paul.
After years releasing solo records, Keaggy said it was refreshing to record a work that, in a way, took him back to his band days.

Keaggy’s talent is best seen in his instrumental work, mostly because those are focused around his actual music and the message in the music rather than the words, and I think that he can get his message across more effectively that way.
In 1978 Phil Keaggy had already been named the greatest guitar player ever by quite a many people, and already in his solo career he had received much acclaim for his past works, but then he realized that there was an entire area that he had not yet explored: the instrumental.
Keaggy's technical brilliance is shown even less here, just a few riffs in a couple songs (especially "Symphonic Dance"), but it's obvious he really knows what he wants to accomplish here, and he does.

Lovingly collected and presented by Phil's good friend Robin Eastburn, the Phil Keaggy Lyric Archive finally makes available the lyrics for nearly every song Phil has written, including some not readily available (you know, that song you heard at a concert that you can't find on CD!).
The transcription here consists of rough handwritten notes describing Phil's solo performance of the tune (with the opening flute part done on guitar), along with a transcription of parts for a single flute at the beginning and end of the tune (these parts combine lines from the two flutes played on the recording).
Phil has noted that the accompaniment was inspired by the music of Bruce Cockburn.

Phil Keaggy is one of those guitarists who are regularly listed in Guitar Player magazine in a "Best Guitarist" list or as someone's influence, and yet he has never achieved national recognition.
While it is true that Keaggy can machine-gun out a flurry of notes, most of the pieces on this disc are on the mellow side, meditative without sacrificing musical content (John Tesh this is not).
I have found Keaggy's music categorized in the classical section, the rock section, and even in the inspirational section.
