When it was time to watch the cowboy shows, I used to dress up in my hat, boots, six-shooter and natural leather holster that Dad made for me and watch the TV sitting on the arm of our living room chair, pretending it was a horse.
Another one of their specialties was their kosher tomatoes and I remember riding home on the El (which is Philadelphia-ese for elevated railroad, a subway on stilts) one day with a package full of them that filled the whole car with their wonderful aroma.
Philadelphia was far from a model city for cleanliness.

The ever popular Frank Lewis, who helped usher the Philadelphia Flyers into the National Hockey League in 1967 as assistant trainer, died on July 4 in Broomall, PA. He was 83 years old.
During the big band era of the 1940's and 50's, Frank played saxophone and clarinet for the Tommy Dorsey, Ted Lewis and Jack Teagarten orchestras at the Earle Theatre in downtown Philadelphia.
In 1955, he began his hockey career at the Philadelphia Arena, serving as assistant trainer and spare goalie for the Philadelphia Ramblers of the Eastern Hockey League.

There’s no doubt that Pratt was ready to turn professional and excel.
Pratt entered the professional ranks as a member of the Philadelphia Ramblers, the minor-league squad for the NHL’s New York Rangers in the Canadian-American Hockey League.
In January 1936, and after 28 games and 15 points in Philadelphia, Pratt was bumped up to the Rangers and became a regular.

It happened to New Haven in 1983, the Nighthawks winning both times, and earlier in 1939, with Cleveland beating the Providence Reds, then losing to the Philadelphia Ramblers.
Terry Virtue, who played here for three seasons and won a Calder Cup, was the last Worcester player off of the ice after the post-game handshakes and got a very warm standing ovation.
Hartford will play either Philadelphia or Wilkes-Barre in the next round, which may not start for two weeks.
