	Philadelphonic by G. Love and Special Sauce (lyrics & reviews)
		"Philadelphonic" takes a step backwards with songs that are not only mainstream MTV hits, but a bit too reminiscent of the early '90s Beastie Boys.
		With G looking a lot like Elvis on the back of this cd, things seem to be kicked into highgear on this outing, offering many lovely cuts that are some of the best songs the band has ever conjured up with their magical melange of rap, folk, blues and rock.
		Philadelphonic, overall, is a really good record, and I think it's well worth your time.

		That wouldn't be so bad if Philadelphonic was simply a series of jams, but they continue to write material that feels like songs but never gels.
		They turn out to be vehicles for jams and half-hearted, muttered raps, neither of which provide hooks or memorable turns of phrase.
		That doesn't mean Philadelphonic doesn't sound good, since the group does have a way with a groove -- it just never really rises above the level of a groove-jam album.

		Philadelphonic is filled with a number of bouncy pool party anthems as well as cool laid back lazy summer day music.
		The appearance of Jack Johnson is quite nice, and "Rodeo Clowns" is definately the strongest cut of the album.
		Philadelphonic is more electric, more richly instrumentated, higher fidelity, a fuller sound and the pace seems to be a little more bouncy, bright and fast-paced.

		This soul-influenced album showed to be similar with their debut album then previous release.
		Philadelphonic was followed up with Electric Mile in 2001, an album that shows the wide-ranging influences of the trio, incorporating hip-hop, funk, psychedlia, blues, and soul in equal and ambitious measure.
		Hustle was also the first G. Love release under Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records banner; the two had been pals at least since Philadelphonic, which Johnson had been a guest on.

		PHILADELPHONIC weds a laid-back, bluesy groove with an urban sensibility to create a compelling and eminently listenable whole.

		Jeffrey Clemens is a huge inspiration to me as a drummer, and you need look no further than the first track of this landmark album to find out exactly why.
		Although probably a bit more commercial than the self titled debut, Philadelphonic, to me, is G and the group's finest release.
		It's masterful blend of rap, soul, randb, funk, and, as always, the blues, is a sound that has been ridiculously imitated but never emulated.
