Brian Ferriso is from Tulsa, Okla. The executive director and chief executive officer of the Philbrook Museum of Art, Ferriso was unanimously approved Tuesday morning as the Portland Art Museum's next executive director.
Museum board chairman Marty Brantley said Ferriso, 40, was the most seriously considered candidate out of the dozens who applied, including several other candidates who had also been flown to Portland for interviews.
He's risen steadily in the museum ranks, spending three years at each of his previous major jobs -- assistant director at Chicago's Smart Museum of Art, deputy director and senior director of curatorial affairs at The Milwaukee Art Museum, and executive director and CEO of the Philbrook.

Brian Ferriso, executive director and chief executive officer of the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Okla., is the museum's top candidate to replace Executive Director John Buchanan, who left Portland in February to direct the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
Leading the Portland museum would be a big step up for Ferriso, who has led the Philbrook since 2003 and before that worked in senior positions at the Milwaukee Museum of Art and served as the assistant director of the University of Chicago's Smart Museum of Art.
The museum sued the architect in charge of the renovation, Ann Beha, because of cost overruns for the project.

If you are in the Tulsa area, take a few hours to visit the Philbrook, but make sure it's a nice day if you want to see the gardens in their finest.
I can't say much about the museum itself, we didn't see anything except the Benton mural in the lobby; however, the mural is worth the visit, for it is absolutely breathtaking.
Inside the Visitor's Center and Museum there are numerous things for you to do: exhibits, artifacts, a replicated village, and a really well produced film about the mounds and the people who built them.
