The Los Angeles Philharmonic is an orchestra based in Los Angeles, California.
From 1964-2003, the orchestra played its concerts in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Los Angeles Music Center.
Since its founding in 1919, the LA Philharmonic has played at least one concert a year in its "sister city", Santa Barbara, California, presented by the Community Arts Music Association (CAMA).

Its present name derives from the merger (1928) of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra with the New York Symphony Orchestra.
The Philharmonic Society of New York was formed (1842) and gave its first concert that year.
In 1921 the Philharmonic merged with the National Symphony Orchestra, whose conductor, J. Mengelberg, remained with the Philharmonic until 1930.
