Philip Hansen Anselmo (born June 30, 1968 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a heavy metal vocalist and musician.
Anselmo said in various interviews that in reflection upon his childhood he was, overall, a leader and that many kids would respect him and look to him to see what to do next.
Anselmo and the gang were apparently going to hit the studios by the end of 2005 at the latest, but after the wake of Hurricane Katrina which effectively destroyed New Orleans (the homebase of the Down unit) we may not hear of any recordings until sometime in 2006.

Anselmo and Abbott spent 15 years touring the world together in PANTERA.
Anselmo was at home on the north shore last week when Abbott was killed.
Anselmo's statement says that "the heavy metal media destroyed PANTERA." He laments that he "never got a chance to say goodbye (to Abbott) in the right way and it kills me, and I'm so sorry."

A video clip of Alice In Chains performing the song "Would?" with ex-Pantera frontman Philip Anselmo on March 10, 2006 at the taping of the VH1 Classic series "Decades Rock Live!" has been posted online at YouTube.com.
Anselmo sang two songs with the group ("Would?" and "Them Bones"), while Comes With The Fall frontman William DuVall performed another two and dueted with Heart vocalist Ann Wilson on "Rooster".
Chris Cornell has a powerful voice and a very specific reconizable voice,but i think he'd alter the AIC sound too much by adding from his own experiences.Phil is attempting to capture AIC orignal sound it's not bad but not the best.Can't beat the original.
