Philip Burdon is widely respected as being one of New Zealand's most successful businessmen and distinguished politicians.
Mr Burdon was first elected to Parliament in 1981 for the Christchurch seat of Fendalton which he still holds.
Mr Burdon has also overseen progress of a major review of New Zealand's industrial property legislation and the amendment of industrial property law to meet the country's GATT Uruguay Round obligations.
