  Philip II Philoromaeus
Philip II Philoromaeus or Barypos was son of the Seleucid king Philip I Philadelphus.
Philip II himself briefly reigned parts of Syria in the 60's B.C., as a client-king under Pompey.
Philip himself was indeed an insignificant pawn, but with him ended eleven generations of Seleucid kings, by far the mightiest rulers of the hellenistic world.

 Philip II Philoromaeus
Philip II Philoromaeus or Barypos (heavy-foot) was son of the Seleucid king Philip I Philadelphus and the last king of the Seleucid dynasty.
Following the return of Pompey to Rome and his subsequent defeats, Philip broke free from Roman supervision and attacked the Parthians, who were in the middle of a dynastic feud.
Having thus become the ruler of almost the entire empire of Alexander the Great, Philip moved his capital to Susa in Persia, where he resided in style for a few years as the last of the Greek kings, planning campaigns against the rebellious provinces of eastern Persia as well as against the Romans.

Seleucid Empire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
His son and successor, Antiochus I Soter, proved unable to pick up where his father had left off in conquering the European portions of Alexander's empire, but was left, nevertheless, with an enormous realm consisting of nearly all of the Asian portions of the Empire.
His competitors were Antigonus II Gonatas in Macedonia and Ptolemy II Philadelphus in Egypt.
Antiochus and Philip V of Macedon then made a compact to divide the Ptolemaic possessions outside of Egypt, and in the Fifth Syrian War, the Seleucids ousted Ptolemy V from control of Coele-Syria.

Station Information - Antiochus XI Ephiphanes Philadelphus
Antiochus XI, son of Antiochus VIII and brother of Seleucus VI, could frankly be characterized as insignificant - a minor participant in the civil wars which clouded the last years of the once glorious Seleucids, now reduced to local dynasts in Syria.
Following the defeat of his brother in 95 B.C. by Antiochus X, Antiochus XI and yet another brother, Philip I Philadelphus, opted for revenge and besieged Antiochia.
After the campaign had ended in defeat, Antiochus was forced to flee but drowned in the river Orontes while trying to cross it on horseback.

The centralised Persian Empire was easy to govern once it was conquered, and the Macedonian military hegemony was by and large unthreatened, but the king had died without appointing a successor.
Even a powerful heir would have found it hard to maintain Alexander's unifying authority, but as things were the kingship was divided between his feeble half-brother Philip III and his posthumous son Alexander IV.
None of them were more than puppets in the hands of the Macedonian generals, the Diadochs, who soon sliced up the empire between them.
