Philip Jones, trumpet artist and founder of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble (PJBE) died on January 17, 2000, at the age of 71.
Jones achieved his goal of gaining the same recognition for brass soloists and ensembles that had previously been enjoyed by more traditional solo instruments such as the piano and violin.
Jones was born into a family of trumpeters on March 12, 1928, in Bath, England, and was a scholarship student at the Royal College of Music.

Lytle Jones, was accepted by the national office of the Daughters of American Revolution as a true descendant of Captain Etheldred Jones and became a member of the Oconce Chapter, McRae, Georgia.

Philip Jones (March 12, 1928 - January 17, 2000) was a British trumpeter and leader of an internationally famous brass chamber music ensemble.
In 1951 he had formed the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, one of the first brass ensembles working regularly as a stable group.
The most usual formations were the quintet (two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba) and the ten-piece (four trumpeters one sometimes doubling piccolo trumpet and one sometimes doubling flugel horn, horn, four trombones and tuba).
