On Saturday, 29th November 2003, five generations of the Smith family joined veterans from the Royal Leicestershire Regimental Association in an emotional service to place a footstone at the graveside of Corporal (Lance-Sergeant) Philip Smith VC in Dublin's Glasnevin Cemetery.
Philip Smith's Victoria Cross medal group is held by the Regimental Museum.
Philip Smith was born on 5 October 1825 at Lurgan, Co. Armagh, and following his service career, returned to Ireland and died on 16 January 1906, aged 80, at Our Lady's Hospice, Dublin, of bronchitis and pneumonia.

Phillip Hagar Smith was born in Lexington, Massachusetts on April 29, 1905, to George and Rose Whitney Smith of Scotch and English ancestry.
Smith, Bell Telephone Laboratories." The footnote referred to a paragraph in the article which began, "There is another effective way for transforming line impedance by means of short line devices...." It was the first published report of Phil's work, work that ultimately led to the creation of the Smith Chart.
Smith approached a number of technical magazines with regard to publication of the Chart, but acceptance was slow.

The Forensic Science Service® (FSS®) played a crucial role in the conviction of Philip Smith who was found guilty of the murder of three women in Birmingham over four days in November 2000.
Once Smith was arrested, two FSS scientists visited his home whilst another examined his Volvo car and searched for evidence linking the suspect to the three crimes.

Philip Smith, radar developer and inventor of the Smith Chart, was born in Lexington, Massachusetts on 29 April 1905.
As a teenager, Smith put together an amateur radio station with many homemade parts and even contributed a number of short articles to the radio section of the Boston Traveler.
After a long, illustrious career, Smith retired from Bell Labs in 1970 and formed his own company, Analog Instruments, which merchandised navigational instruments for light aircraft and later supplied Smith Charts and chart-related items.

Totals of 1,216 sediment and 1,128 water samples were collected from 1,225 locations in the Philip Smith Mountains quadrangle as part of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL) Philip Smith Mountains Quadrangle NURE Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) study.
