Baron Philippe de Rothschild (13 April 1902 - 20 January 1988) was a member of the Rothschild banking dynasty who became a Grand Prix race-car driver, a scriptwriter, a theatrical producer, a poet, and the most successful wine grower in the world.
At the outbreak of World War I, 12-year-old Philippe was sent to the safety of the family's vineyard in the village of Pauillac in the Médoc.
Philippe de Rothschild's parents fled to the safety of Lausanne, Switzerland and the Paris mansion where they lived became the headquarters for the German Naval Command.

Elisabeth de Rothschild (March 9, 1902, Paris, France - March 23, 1945, Ravensbrück, Germany) was a member by marriage of the wine-making branch of the Rothschild family.
Born Elisabeth Pelletier de Chambure and known as Lili, she was the daughter of Auguste Pelletier de Chambure, mayor of Escrignelles, a member of a Catholic family whose roots were in the Burgundy region.
In 1935, immediately after her divorce from her first husband, Maurice Rheims, she married her lover, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a member of the prominent Rothschild family and the owner of one of France's most famous vineyards, the Château Mouton Rothschild in Pauillac in the Médoc.

The famous Barons de Brane owned the already well known vineyard in the 18th and early 19th centuries when it was known as Chateau Brane-Mouton.
