COAST Guard officials recommended a halt to retrieval operations in the SuperFerry 14 disaster after no remains were recovered from the ship in three days of mopping-up operations.
Coast Guard Commodore Wilfredo Tamayo, who supervised the task of recovering the bodies from the scuttled ship, said retrieval should be stopped and salvage work and the removal of the wreck should start.
Coast Guard divers and personnel from the Philippine Navy and the Bureau of Fire Protection spent more than three weeks recovering bodies from the SuperFerry 14 which caught fire on February 27 shortly after it left Manila for Bacolod City and Cagayan de Oro province.

The Philippine Coast Guard said the cook, identified as Xu Zukui, has been ill since Friday but was only rescued off Polillo Island Sunday morning when his ship, the M/V Xiang Yang Hung 09, got near enough for the coast guard's helicopter to reach.
