 Army - Streamers-1 (U.S.)
Examples would be the WW II Asiatic-Pacific streamer with inscription LUZON (denoting participation in a 1944-45 Philippines campaign) or the same streamer without inscription (for a unit which remained in Hawaii throughout the war).
Campaign or war service credits are awarded to units based on their participation in specific wars, campaigns or battles.
Unit decorations are awarded for gallantry or meritorious service, and their streamers bear the inscription of the action for which the unit was cited or (usually when an award is made for meritorious service rather than for gallantry) the theater or geographical area in which the unit served.

As commander (1944-45) of the U.S. 3d Fleet, he commanded the naval action in the Philippines, won the battle of Leyte Gulf (Oct., 1944) and led (July, 1945) the seaborne bombardment of Japan.
He was promoted (Nov., 1945) to fleet admiral (five-star admiral) and retired in 1947.
In World War II he led (Jan., 1942) a spectacular carrier raid against the Marshall Islands and Gilbert Islands, and during the campaign in the Solomon Islands he assumed command of the South Pacific area.

 History Channel International
Between October 1944 and August '45, General Douglas MacArthur and his men recaptured the Philippines from the Japanese, led by General Tomoyuki Yamashita, in the largest single US campaign in the Pacific War.
Although he captures Moscow, hundreds of thousands of soldiers die, frozen or starved to death on Russia's open plains.
As the Americans pushed forward, Yamashita had one weapon the US did not--kamikaze pilots, who sacrificed their lives for maximum destruction of the enemy.
