Philips van Marnix, lord of Sint-Aldegonde - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Philips van Marnix, lord of St Aldegonde ( 1538 - December 15, 1598), was a Dutch writer and statesman, and the probable author of the text of the Dutch national anthem, the Wilhelmus.
Marnix van St. Aldegonde studied theology under Calvin and Beza at Geneva and, returning to the Netherlands in 1560, threw himself energetically into the cause of the Reformation, taking an active part in the compromise of the nobles in 1565 and the assembly of St Trond.
St Aldegonde, or Marnix (by which name he is very commonly known), is celebrated for his share in the great development of Dutch literature which followed the classical period represented by such writers as the poet and historian Pieter Hooft.

Philips does not own what was GTE Sylvania as some may think as that name is now owned by the light bulb division of Siemens, AG.
Philips introduced the compact audio cassette tape, which was wildly successful, though their attempt to set a standard for video cassette recorder s, the V2000, was unsuccessful in the face of competition from the Betamax and VHS standards.
It's also believed at the same time that Philips has both before and during the war supplied enormous amounts of electric equipment to the German occupier, which has led some people to think that they have basically collaborated with the Nazi s, like many German firms in their day.

William I of Orange - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was probably written by Philips van Marnix, lord of Sint-Aldegonde, a supporter of William of Orange.
On 6 July 1551, he married Anna van Egmond en Buren, the wealthy heir to the lands of her father, and William earned the titles Lord of Egmond and Count of Buren.
Van Oldenbarneveldt managed to sign a very favourable 12-year armistice in 1609, although Maurice was unhappy with this.
