Topic: Philosophical view

1939: Philosophy - Archive Article - MSN Encarta
Its view, in general, is that philosophers do not actually disagree with each other, because the problems with regard to which they seem to disagree are only pseudo problems resulting from linguistic confusions.
Regardless of whether their view concerning philosophical problems is correct, it cannot, however, be said that in practice they have been successful.
This view is already well known from his 'The Right and the Good.' But in his more recent book he no longer holds that 'good' has a single meaning; he now maintains that moral good and pleasure are not good in the same sense.

Materialism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Materialism is the philosophical view that the only thing that can truly be said to 'exist' is matter; that fundamentally, all things are composed of 'material' and all phenomena are the result of material interactions.
According to this view, all that exists is matter and void, and all phenomena are the result of different motions and conglomerations of base material particles called "atoms." De Rerum Natura provides remarkably insightful, mechanistic explanations for phenomena, like erosion, evaporation, wind, and sound, that would not become accepted for more than 1500 years.
The view is perhaps best understood in its opposition to the doctrines of immaterial substance applied to the mind historically, and most famously by René Descartes.

It is certainly true that philosophical counselling is not for everyone; one ought to be curious, speculative, pensive, analytical, and inwardly articulate to benefit most from it.
In my view, philosophical counselling is analogous to a genus; particular therapeutic approaches, to species belonging to that genus.

Wikipedia:Neutral point of view - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To write from a neutral point of view, one presents controversial views without asserting them; to do that, it generally suffices to present competing views in a way that is more or less acceptable to their adherents, and also to attribute the views to their adherents.
We said that the neutral point of view is not, contrary to the seeming implication of the phrase, some actual point of view that is "neutral" or "intermediate" among the different positions.
If we are to represent the dispute fairly, we should present competing views in proportion to their representation among experts on the subject, or among the concerned parties.

Philosophical Counselling as a Quest For Wisdom
Philosophical self-investigation is a process in which the person rises beyond her self-centred concerns and specific interests and opens herself to the endless horizons of potential understandings of the ground of our being.
Philosophical counselling does not deny the validity of psychological understanding and treatment, but rather sees itself as a very different endeavour, not one of treating inner forces in the person, but rather journeying in the domain of ideas.
The process of moving back and forth between the philosophical and the personal level and weaving the two into one another unfolds the horizon of ideas or meanings related to the issue, not only those that are already embedded in the counsellee's life, but more importantly those that extend beyond her actual way of being.

In Philosophical Investigations, a book which became the bible for a whole new way of philosophical thinking (but which he never published in his lifetime), Wittgenstein scrapped all that for the view that language ultimately WAS the world because it contained it.
A lot of philosophers today are dissatisfied with what they see as a contemptuous attitude of Wittgenstein towards the traditional method of philosophical inquiry: 1)looking at philosophical problem 2)analyzing it 3)formulating a theory capable of explaining it.

Philosophical terms are, therefore, always either terms selected from some area of established usage (a “language game”) because they seem to be most suitable for the performance of a philosophical task; or else they are terms which although not having an established use, clarify or otherwise improve upon ideas which are familiar.
Philosophical terms are no exception, since they are ordinarily borrowed from situation in which their use is of interest for philosophical purposes, while the use to which they are put in philosophy is never strictly identical.

A Philosophical View of Gay Marriage
This is, as much, backed up by the philosophical finding that humans, in general, do not like drastic change, especially if they are in the minority in opposing that change.
Philosophically speaking, this argument is supported on the grounds that humans have, throughout their existence, sought prophets and texts to create or reinforce their beliefs.
The argument of religion's position is that, if a contradiction to a value held to be absolute - marriage - is upheld by law, they must now doubt the absoluteness of every other view hey hold and seek to reinforce with that prophet or text.

Chapter three constitutes Pinnock's philosophical defense of the open view although he repeatedly asserts his belief that conventional theism is more driven by philosophy than is the openness view.
The membership (gatekeepers) voted that his conclusions were incompatible with an acceptable view of inerrancy, despite his appeals to the contrary.] Pinnock may be too histrionic here (though recall his personal woundedness), but it seems to me his opponents owe evangelicalism more than the mere dismissal from their ranks of Pinnock and his kin.

Philosophical statements are often made in a context in which some justification is required for practices within a field of study, when that justification cannot be given by applying the tools of that study itself.
Whether a view is a philosophy does not depend on whether it actually does succeed in defining the conceptual structures or in justifying the assumptions of a field of study, but it must at least be intended for this purpose.
Since philosophical views are expressed by statements of justification, they often are view about what ought to be the case as a general principle.

The Mormon Concept of God: A Philosophical Analysis - FARMS Review
The authors begin by contrasting their view of the Mormon concept of God with the God of "classical theism." There is a very basic difference between the Mormon view of perfection and the "classical" view.
The Mormon view that God is involved in "eternal progression" and that a genuine risk is associated with salvation due to free will (in opposition to Satan's plan, which would have removed all risks) is more consistent with the open view of God.

 Philosophical Views of God
Philosophical reflection on what is meant by the term "God" and whether such a God exists tries to use rational methods to clarify this problematic situation.
The traditional view tends to regard possession of a body as a sign of imperfection; after all, creatures with bodies are subject to disease, suffering, sexual temptation, excessive desire for material possessions, etc. Since God is perfect, they reasoned, God must be bodiless.
Before we turn to alternate views, let us consider a final challenge to the traditional philosophical view: Perhaps the analogy on which it seems to be based extrapolates or extends the concept of mind and knowledge beyond all reasonable bounds.

Richard Rorty (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
In light of the view of truth and of meaning that Rorty appropriates from Davidson, his conversationalism is not a matter of giving priority to the subjective over the objective, or to mind's power over world's constraint.
This way of stating the lesson, however, appears to leave open the possibility that certain philosophical problems eventually may legitimately be taken seriously--that is, at face value in the sense that they require constructive solutions--provided the assumptions which sustain their formulation stand up to proper critical scrutiny.
For Rorty, to legitimate the assumptions on which a philosophical problem is based, would be to establish that the terms we require to pose it are mandatory, that the vocabulary in which we encounter it is in principle inescapable.
