During the 1980s that one-man genre Stephen King published The Eyes of the Dragon and several pamphlets with his own Philtrum Press.
At the same time British author Keith Roberts was one of a number of investors who formed Kerosina Press, a publisher who eventually put out several of Roberts' books.

 The Plant
Stephen King wrote a few parts of a story called "The Plant" and sent out as chapbooks to his friends instead of Christmas cards in 1982, 1983, and 1985.
Only three instalments were produced by Philtrum Press before the story was shelved (the original editions are hotly sought-after collector's items today).
Now King has picked up The Plant again and started to publish it as an electronic serial.

The novella, which is available for $2.50 at publisher Simon and Schuster's web site www.simonsays.com, and for free at Amazon.com, can only be read on a computer.
Its online appearance is "a leap into the digital future," according to Susan Moldow, vice president of Scribner, a co-publisher of the book along with King's own publishing company, Philtrum Press.
The 66-page novella can be downloaded but not printed, and only the first few pages can be forwarded by e-mail for free, Moldow said.

I have included info on the first 1st printing for some of the older books that had a very limited 1st edition although not a true 1st edition if done by a different press in many cases the print runs were small enough to make them collectable.

In conclusion, The Eyes of the Dragon is an amazing acheivement, one of King's most overlooked masterpeices, and I've read the book four times (including one I read in a four-day rush recently.) Go read now!!!
In 1984, King published The Eyes of the Dragon through his own Philtrum Press, in lieu of the third installment of the now defunct The Plant.
He chose the artist (Kenneth R. Linkhauser, or Kenny Ray Linkous, depending on which name he's using now), he supervised production, and well, he wrote it.
