Amazon.co.uk: Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights [2001]: DVD   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Phoenix Nights allows him a lead role in writing, casting and performing in a comedy so quirky and lo-fi that it's the nearest thing to US director Kevin Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob" quintet that Britain in general, and Bolton in particular, has ever produced.
The style is deadpan, a brilliant pastiche of the "docu-soaps" which have plagued TV schedules for the past decade, but the humour is intense, quick-fire and full of disturbingly memorable one-liners ("talk to the organ, not the monkey grinder" has become a catchphrase in my house!).
Okay, it helps that the first series of Phoenix Nights was side-splittingly funny, that the mismatched characters are each funny in their own rights, but the sum of their talents is absolutley hilarious.

X-Men Phoenix Saga The X-Men animated TV-series is being featured here with 5 episodes that were produced back in 1994.
The series is for fans, really, since the plot is very much in line with the comic books rather than a screenplay like the one for the X-Men feature film.
Overall the spacial sound field in the front and surrounds is wanting as the missing bandwidth and detail as well as the dominance of the high frequencies make this a rather tough experience on home theater equipment on higher volume levels.

Phoenix Five was certainly cheap, but it was definitely not a copy of Star Trek, as its predecessor The Interpretaris dates back to 1966 before Star Trek had gone to air in the United States.
Phoenix Five was an improvement on both The Interpretaris and Vega 4, but it still suffered from the effects of a low budget.
Phoenix Five and its predecessors fall well short of their potential, in spite of having basic concepts that were at least as visionary as some successful overseas sci-fi programmes.
