		Phoniatrics is the medical specialty for communication disorders, concerned with diseases and disorders of voice, speech, language, hearing (in so far as hearing impairment has its effects on any of the areas previously mentioned) and swallowing.
		As a consequence, a phoniatrician can be said to have a responsibility of his own, to have a coordinating task and to be competent as to the whole of prophylaxis, diagnostics, therapeutics, rehabilitation, medical report (also on fitness for special activities), teaching and research, with reference to the diseases and disorders previously mentioned.
		The selection of the training institutes and the teachers in phoniatrics as well as the affirmation of having fulfilled the requirements to be recognized as a phoniatrician is done by an official council of phoniatricians.

		Phoniatrics is the medical research[?] and treatment of organs involved with speech production.
		In general terms the speech organs means the mouth, throat (larynx), the vocal cords and lungs.
		Problems treated in phoniatrics include dysfunction of the vocal cords, cancer in the vocal cords or larynx, incapability to control the speech organs properly (speech disorders), and vocal loading related problems.

	The Japan Society of Logopedics and Phoniatrics
		This was based on the idea, according to my understanding, that the identity of logopedics and phoniatrics should be interdisciplinary.
		Although logopedics and phoniatrics is said to be a young field, it has been a number of years since it was established.

	Not every stutterer is a problem case
		Professor Goetz Schade, who is the head of the Phoniatrics and Paedaudology Section of Bonn's University Clinic, warns parents against over-reacting.
		If a child is no longer keen to speak and lack of fluency in speech, accompanied by attempts to fight against this or to avoid speaking, is characteristic of the child's language, the parents should definitely seek assistance.
		In the Phoniatrics and Paedaudiology Section of Bonn's ENT Clinic Professor Schade and the speech therapist Hanna Engelmann decide which therapy to initiate.

	Voice Research and Treatment in the Czech Republic
		The phoniatric research activities in Czechoslovakia were numerous (for more information see, e.g., Sram, 1980 or Dlouhá, 2001).
		Frantisek Sram is an otolaryngologist, phoniatrician, and a prominent representative of the Prague Phoniatric School (pupil of Seeman and Sedlácková).
		He is a former board member of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) and a recipient of the "Gutzmann Medal" for scientific work and international cooperation in phoniatrics.
