Negative (photography) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Color, positive picture (A) and negative (B), monochrome positive picture (C) and negative (D) In photography, a negative is a rectangle of material (nowadays usually photographic film) coated with chemicals that, upon photographic exposure, cause the material to record the colors or monochromatic shades of the scene in inverse, negative form.
Then, it can be used to produce a print, in which the colors or shades are reverted to their original form.
The opposite of a negative is a positive (also called "transparency," "slide" or "reversal"), which does not invert the colors or monochromatic shades of a scene.

A full frame print is one in which the whole image is printed, with no significant cropping, on the chosen paper size.

 Kallitype
Kallitype is one of a number of printing processes in the iron-silver family, along with, among others, Vandyke brown and argyrotype.
In kallitype printing, a suitable paper is coated with a solution of ferric oxalate and silver nitrate, using either rod or brush.
Printing requires a light source high in ultraviolet light, of which there are a variety: the sun, a bank of fl-light fluorescent tubes, mercury vapor and metal halide HID lamps, as well as commercial plateburners such as the Nuarc 26-1K.

We believe the choice of printing process is an important decision that should be left to the photographer, who can weigh the pros and cons of each process and make the best choice for each individual image.
Ektacolor prints do not usually have the same brilliance of an Ilfochrome print but when printed properly they can be quite pleasing in their color scale.
When printing images in the darkroom, several test strips and prints need to be made before the final print can be produced.

Images printed by offset lithography — the printing process by which the majority of periodicals are printed for example — have invariably been photomechanical graphics until computer graphic processes have gotten to take over some of this territory.
He claims that pigment printing is the best photoprocess for color, tone and lightfastness known to date; indeed that it is the only color photopositive process that has its longevity, in contrast to the standard processes which hold their colorfastness and light-resistance no more than twenty years.

 3D Fun
To create a print by a direct non-photographic approach, say by lithography, one must be sure that print head is aligned and remains aligned with the lenticules during the printing process.
If you are not using a multilens consumer or professional camera where the printing is handled by the camera compnay, then after you have either photographed or rendered your subject in a series of frames, you will need to be sure that each frame aligns with the others in the key subject area.
Simply input the desired print width, the exact pitch (see below) of the lenticular screen, the field of view of the lenticules, and the number of frames, and the program will calculate the width in pixels that your files should be expanded or contracted to, and the required resolution of the final interlaced file.

Mike Ware's Alternative Photography: A Conspectus
The full gamut of photographic printing processes may be little-known to contemporary photographers, who have been educated largely within the mainstream of the silver-gelatine tradition.
Any photographic printing material that does not originate from a box labelled with one of the well-known commercial brand names may be described as 'historical', 'alternative', 'non-silver', 'unconventional', 'obsolete' or even 'archaic'.
Compared with modern silver-gelatine printing, the conspicuous disadvantage of most alternative processes is their low 'speed' in the photographic sense, because the sensitivity of the coatings to light is about a million times less than that of bromide enlarging papers.

 Photographic Printing Paper
THE aim of those who prepare albumen, andc., paper for photographic purposes, appears to be that of manufacturing art article that will absorb the least amount of nitrate of silver, and still produce a good picture.
Hence, it seems right to apply more sizing to photographic paper than for that which is used for the ordinary purposes of life ; and, furthermore, it is probable that we may eventually devise some substance or mixture of substances that will subserve the purposes more effectually.
There is sufficient in this exposition about the sizing of paper to show not only what is required to render the surface of paper almost impermeable to fluids, but also the absurdity of obtaining patents on such flimsy grounds.
