Belize is a great location for caves because of its wet climate and plentiful limestone.
The Belize Zoo is probably the finest zoo in the Americas, south of the U.S. The zoo originally opened in 1983 and is well-known for its phenomenal conservation achievement.
It is the outermost of the three atolls (45 to 50 miles east of Belize City) and is a universe of diving in itself.

Almost two years ago we traveled to Peru, and unlike Peru, the airport in Belize was less chaotic; the place was much smaller, it lacked the hordes of illicit cab drivers shouting at the plane load of tourists, and fewer pedestrians crowded the rooms.
Also absent in the Belize airport was the line of impoverished, uniformed laborers waiting to board and clean the large American plane just as it's engines were winding down.
Here, all fauna are presented in their natural habitat with minimal human zoo-construction.

The Belize Postclassic project is a long term program of research devoted to understanding processes of cultural change that occurred in northern Belize after the 10th century collapse of Classic period political centers in the southern lowlands.
The Belize Postclassic Project is committed to pursuing the analysis of political structure in northern Belize through using independent archaeological investigation to test and refine models extracted from ethnohistory of the Chetumal Province.
Prior to this project’s inception, it was not known that in northern Belize, Maya populations established island villages and rebuilt their society in the rural, aquatic "backroads" of the Belize frontier.
