Photohydrogen is hydrogen produced with the help of artificial or natural light.
It is sometimes discussed in the context of obtaining renewable energy from sunlight, by using microscopic organisms such as bacteria or algae.

In fact, Calipso has an overwhelmingly large amount of Photohydrogen, the very rare version of Hydrogen that is highly sought after.
The reason for this is but a simple one, as Photohydrogen has one use: Photohydrogen is the fuel that powers the Imperium's Plasma Weaponry.
Photohydrogen abundance: Every squad must have at least ONE Plasma based weapon, whether it be a pistol, gun, or cannon.

The influence of the stress factors pH and temperature on photosynthesis and photohydrogen evolution was investigated in a unicellular marine green alga, Chlorococcum littorale.
Maximum activities of photosynthetic oxygen evolution and photohydrogen evolution were determined at 5% CO, pH 7.5 and 25
At pH 11, a decrease in photosynthetic oxygen evolution was observed, caused by partial inhibition of the water-splitting complex.

Southern blot analysis with genomic, chloroplastic and mitochondrial DNA of the alga shows that the hydrogenases are encoded in the nucleus.
The main future goal of our research is the application of hydrogenases in photohydrogen production on a technical scale.
Due to the coupling of hydrogenases to photosynthesis, algae are able to use light-energy for photohydrogen production directly and in addition avoid production of CO To take advantage of this efficient system, further details of the process have to be collected.

Microbial process for photohydrogen production from cellulose in high saline water medium - Patent 4921800
A process that is carried out in partly sequential and partly simultaneous steps as detailed below, to build a process, with natural light using wave lengths from 360 nm to 900 nm using solid substrate of carbonaceous substances and one phototrophic bacteria and saline water to produce a rich fuel gas.
Therefore, development of a process for hydrogen production using solar energy, cellulosic materials and sea water is highly desirable.
Interest been focused on developing a process by which a marine thermophilic phototrophic bacterium Rhodospirillum salinarum ATCC 35394 (American Type Culture Collection, Rockville, Md.) which was isolated from Portugal by H. Nissen and D. Dundas is used for photohydrogen production with natural light and with organic acid and cellulose as substrates.

It was found that the photohydrogen production is increased under conditions when the NDH-M complex is repressed.
Since the NDH-M complex was shown to be part of the cyclic electron transport (3), the recycling of electrons plays an important role in redox poising under rapidly changing conditions.
This supports that in addition to cyclic electron transport the oxidation of NADPH by this complex is also is a possibility to control the redox state of the cell.

On short term there's excellent ROI to be had from fossil reforming, synthmethanol, fuel cells, photohydrogen and photovoltaics.
This has been overdue for the last three decades -- this war would have been completely unnecessary if we've spent some serious RandD while we had lots of time and money.

Whereas the mechanism of 'photoreduction,' i.e., the photoassimilation of carbon dioxide with hydrogen as the electron donor, was well understood already by Gaffron's group as being a reaction mediated by Photosystem I only, a clear concept of the mechanism of light-dependent hydrogen production has been more difficult to establish.
Gaffron and his collaborators provided ample evidence, however, that 'photohydrogen' evolution can be fueled by reducing equivalents derived from a photolysis of water as well as by an oxidation of internal and external organic molecules.
The presently prevailing view embraces this concept of multiple pathways, but the relative contribution of each of them, and the regulatory mechanisms determining it, remain a matter of debate.
