Photometry is the science of measurement of light, in terms of its perceived brightness to the human eye.
Photometry attempts to account for this by weighting the measured power at each wavelength with a factor that represents how sensitive the eye is at that wavelength.
Photometry is based on the eye's photopic response, and so photometric measurements will not accurately indicate the perceived brightness of sources in dim lighting conditions.

In other applications, photometry refers to the technology of measuring radiation quantities that are spectrally weighted with the spectral distribution response of a standardized human eye.
Fibre optic telecommunication is an important, dynamically developing area, with major requirements concerning the calibration of power meters, spectral analysis equipment, wavelength meters, optical attenuators and reflectometer equipment.

The photometry facility includes: a simulated star field with an approximate solar spectrum, fast optics to simulate the space borne telescope, a thinned back-illuminated CCD similar to those to be used on the spacecraft operating at 1 Mpix/sec/amp read rate and shutterless operation.
The optics are used to form an image of the sky.
Rotation by a small amount (up to 7°) is used to demonstrate that the photometry is not affected by either having or not having multiple stars in the same CCD readout columns.
Photometry is the measurement of light, which is defined as electromagnetic radiation which is detectable by the human eye.
Visual photometry uses the eye as a comparison detector, while physical photometry uses either optical radiation detectors constructed to mimic the spectral response of the eye, or spectroradiometry coupled with appropriate calculations to do the eye response weighting.
The only real difference between radiometry and photometry is that radiometry includes the entire optical radiation spectrum, while photometry is limited to the visible spectrum as defined by the response of the eye.

We have identified variations in the photometry calibration data at the less than 1% level that are still not fully understood.
In practical terms this effect means that for a source whose flux changes rapidly on a size comparable with or smaller than the pixel size, the measured countrate, and therefore flux, will depend on where the center of the source lies with respect to the center of the pixel.
Differential photometry for cameras 1 and 2 is better than 2%, in the filters for which measurements are available.
It began as an attempt to give astronomical optics a solid foundation, but soon transcended this narrow goal to become a complete reconstruction of the theory of light, the physiology of vision, and the mathematics of refraction.
Second, it is the culmination of a long and rich tradition in the science of optics, in distinct contrast with the new optical thought represented by Descartes---though Descartes built on insights derived from Kepler's work.
Among the treasures the Optics contains are Kepler's theory of the metaphysics of light and other quasi-material powers, a substantial commentary on Aristotle's theory of light, a remarkable, though ultimately unsuccessful, theory of refraction, and a fascinating speculation about the half-hidden heliocentrism of Euclid's Optics.
ESO is developing an array of software analysis packages to perform Photometry and Astrometry on both stellar and diffuse objects observed with Adaptive Optics (AO) Systems.
The imaging data obtained from the Adaptive Optics systems have many features which make the extraction of valid scientific results much more difficult and less precise than the analysis of images obtained from conventional telescope imaging.
The first is the collection of algorithms to perform photometry and astrometry which will be publicly available, documented for the use by a general observer.
Events - Display Testing - An Overview of Display Photometry & Colorimetry and the Application of Imaging ...(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The imaging photometer is a versatile tool which simplifies the measurement of display luminance and colour, reducing testing time and cost compared with traditional spot photometry.
This tutorial will introduce the basics of photometry and colorimetry and how imaging photometers are used in the testing of flat panel LCD, projection, instrument panel, LED, OLED and other display technologies.
The application of imaging photometry in automated, on-line production testing of displays will also be discussed.
During the past few years James Mulherin has developed and refined manufacturing and testing techniques that enable Optical Mechanics to produce very high-quality optics in a shorter period of time than anyone else in the industry.
These techniques enable us to produce and deliver your optics on schedule to meet the demands of your project.
The school purchased the system for general astronomy education and research utilizing photometry and other CCD imaging technologies.
