MB Research Laboratories - Glycerol-Mediated Photoreduction of Hexavalent Chromium   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
This photoreduction occurred after irradiation with either UVA (320-400 nm) or a wide spectrum light source, but not a UVB (290-320 nm) light source.
Photoreduction of hexavalent chromium was found to be pH-dependent and did not occur in dilute solutions of sodium hydroxide.
This reaction is apparently dependent on the unsubstituted alcohol groups of glycerol since alpha-phosphoglycerol or beta-phosphoglycerol did not support the photoreduction of hexavalent chromium.

Transition metal photoreduction systems and processes - Patent 4314019
The photoreductants employed in the practice of this invention shift the position of or change the number of atoms contained within the molecule in the course of conversion to the corresponding reducing agent.
In other photoreductants conversion to the corresponding reducing agent may require that an adjuvant be present in intimate association with the photoreductant to donate the necessary atoms to permit formation of the reducing agent.
In each of these, the photoreductant was coated on filter paper by dipping the filter paper into a solution prepared by dissolving 0.1 g of the photoreductant in 10 ml of acetone or methanol, after which the paper was dried.

Protein conformational perturbations affect the photoreduction of native cytochrome c peroxidase (III) at alkaline pH.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Protein conformational perturbations affect the photoreduction of native cytochrome c peroxidase (III) at alkaline pH.
Photoreduction of alkaline CCP(III) most likely involves intramolecular electron transfer (ET) from the aromatic residue in the proximal heme pocket to the photoexcited heme.
The formation of 6c/1s heme coincides with the onset of appreciable photoreduction (between laser pulses, > 60 ms) of CCP (III) at alkaline pH, suggesting a global protein conformational rearrangement within or around its heme pocket.

Genes encoding A-type flavoproteins are essential for photoreduction of O2 in cyanobacteria.
O(2) photoreduction by photosynthetic electron transfer, the Mehler reaction, was observed in all groups of oxygenic photosynthetic organisms, but the electron transport chain mediating this reaction remains unidentified.
We conclude that the source of electrons for O(2) photoreduction is PSI and that the highly conserved A-type flavoproteins Flv1 and Flv3 are essential for this process in vivo.
We propose that in cyanobacteria, contrary to eukaryotes, the Mehler reaction produces no reactive oxygen species and may be evolutionarily related to the response of anaerobic bacteria to O(2).

Radiation sensitive co(III)complex photoreduction element with image recording layer - Patent 4201588
In still another aspect this invention is directed to a process comprising exposing a radiation-sensitive layer containing a photoreductant and a ligand containing cobalt(III)-complex to electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength longer than 300 nanometers to convert the photoreductant to a reducing agent.
A variety of compounds are known in the art to be photoreductants.
We have discovered that it is possible to produce optically dense cobalt(II) compounds useful in forming negative images by incorporating into the radiation-sensitive layer a compound capable of chelating with the cobalt(II) atom formed on reduction of the cobalt(III) complex.

Site-directed conversion of a cysteine to aspartate leads to the assembly of a [3Fe-4S] cluster in PsaC of photosystem I. The photoreduction of FA is independent of FB.
The terminal electron acceptors FA and FB exist as two [4Fe-4S] clusters located on the 8.9-kDa PsaC protein in photosystem I. We have used site-directed mutagenesis to produce a complementary pair of mutant PsaC proteins in which specific cysteine ligands to the [4Fe-4S] clusters were changed to aspartic acid residues.
