PhpGedView - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
PhpGedView is an open source PHP-based web application for working with your genealogy on the internet, founded and headed by John Finlay.
You can either use your own genealogy program to do editing and upload the GEDCOM, use the simple editing abilities in PhpGedView or use the companion GDBI client to change your genealogical data.
On June 26, 2006, the phpGedView site announced that phpGedView was the most active project at Sourceforge.

In fact, PhpGedView might be one of the best solutions available for a family society or a local genealogy society where a number of people are contributing data to one database.
PhpGedView also handles the privacy issues nicely, something that is a bit more difficult in other genealogy programs where the data is generated on a desktop system and then uploaded to a web server.
I love phpGedView and it has been up and running for my extended family at www.hawsedc.com/phpGedView for 18 months, since before it was as bug-free and full-featured as it now is. The single feature I consistently identify as "missing" is the ability to Match and Merge records.

How does this program compare to PHPGedView - $5 Script Archive Community Forum
It is further complicated by the fact that a new version of phpGedView has been released recently, while a new release of TUFaT is promised soon, which will render such analysis obsolete.
That said, putting a side-by-side look at the two in a nutshell, I would have to say that pGV has a more comprehensive feature set, and is probably the best bet for serious presentation of a "scholarly" genealogy project, by a single compiler, or a small group of collaborators.
It has enabled them to provide a rich set of features, but the modules don't always fit together the way they should, and sometimes it is difficult to figure out whose work has created problems when they arise.

PhpGedView is a freely available Web-based program that displays genealogy information.
PhpGedView version 2.61 could allow a remote attacker to include malicious PHP files.
A remote attacker could send a specially-crafted URL request to the functions.php, authentication_index.php, and config_gedcom.php script using the $PGV_BASE_DIRECTORY variable to specify a malicious file from a remote system as a parameter, which would allow the attacker to execute code on the vulnerable system.

PGV is a pretty hefty-sized project as a standalone package (close to 5.5MB), and there is a lot of work to do to pare it down considerably before I can post a complete package.

Online Editing PhpGedView - Online genealogy at its best
In the past allowing multiple people to editing the same genealogy required that one person export their changes send them to the others in the group who were also editing.
This means that if you want to use the online editing features you must keep your gedcom in a place that the program can access it and make sure that PHP has the proper write privileges on the file.
So PhpGedView has teamed with the GDBI project to provide support for editing your gedcom information online.
