At least 33 people were killed and another 12 went missing as flash floods and landslides resulting from the early monsoon rains, hit seven provinces in northern Thailand and Yala province in the south.
Phrae, the worst affected province where 29 people died, has not seen floods before but has seen its forests severely depleted in recent years.
The flash floods and storms follow a drought at the beginning of the month in the north-eastern province of Mahasarakham where more than 420,000 were affected.

Somdej Sisaeng, director of Phrae province's primary education, said many students stay out of school in winter because they don't have enough clothes to keep themselves warm.

BANGKOK, June 27 (Reuters) - Three people were killed and 38 injured when a train plunged into a ravine in Thailand's mountainous northern Phrae province, a provincial police officer said on Saturday.
The train, carrying 300 passengers, skidded off the rail on Friday night while travelling to Bangkok from the northern capital of Chiang Mai.
The accident caused State Railway of Thailand to cancel several train schedules between Bangkok and northern provinces pending the clearance of the rail.
