I’ve observed that DJs tend to get very bogged down in the technical details of their craft, and as a result are not able to concentrate on the aesthetic portions.
Phrasing requires an understanding of the structure of the music, and using it requires a deep memory of the structure of thousands of songs already played.
The DJ is shown a list of music that he has identified as sounding good with the current song (song #1-3).

Wedding DJs play music but are often expected to act as a masters of ceremonies who introduce the bride and groom, lead dances, or invite guests to play games.
A DJ at a rave would not be expected to do any of these things, but would be expected to introduce a greater technical element to their performance by manipulating the songs they play in order to maintain a given tempo and energy level.

The term was first used to describe radio announcers who would introduce and play popular gramophone records, but today there are a number of factors, including the selected music, the intended audience, the performance setting, the preferred medium, and the development of sound manipulation, that have led to different types of deejays.

Let's call the above 32 beat segment a "phrase." By "phrasing," a DJ is starting the intro exactly at the beginning of a segment and matching it to the outro of a song with the same number of beats (i.e., 32 beat outro).
For example, if a DJ starts to beat match a song with a 32 beat intro into a song with a 16 beat outro, the change at the 17th beat of the outro may ruin the mix (particularly if the intro was noticeable).
If the DJ mixed out of the song with the 16 beat outro, then the remaining 16 beats of the intro will most likely consist of just drums, which will most likely drop the energy level.

I've been to dances where the DJ played one predominant type of swing music, because the DJ had just "discovered" a particular era or genre of swing music and wanted to "educate" the audience on their "discovery".
A DJ needs to have a certain amount of knowledge of the many different types and genres of swing music, and of course, have the actual music on hand to play (although no DJ could possibly have every swing song ever recorded!).
Perhaps the toughest job for a DJ is to ensure that, along with variety of tempos and genres, there is also the proper amount of flow and contrast in the Playlist.

 Phrasing - dnbforum.com
Phrasing is the part of mixing that deals with when you start and subsequently mix in the records.
Most dance music has 16, 32, and 64 bar phrases - therefore, when mixing records, you want to start the second record at the beginning of the live record's phrase.
For example, after the drop, that is generally the beginning of a phrase of that record, so that is a good point to begin the second record.

When you play a phrase with legato and detached notes, with accents, and pedal nuances, Synful Orchestra responds with realistic sounding slurs, tonguing, and bowing.
This is the result of many years of research, several patents, and a lifetime of experimentation, design, and frustration with older synthesis technologies.
This is because it is impossible to achieve realistic musical phrasing for expressive instruments using samplers.
