  Pianet
The original models were the Pianet C and Pianet N, which were built with wooden cases and legs; later came the Pianet L which had metal legs.
Early Pianets were used on a number of hit recordings from the 1960s and 1970s, including "She's Not There" by The Zombies, "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen and "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night.
The Pianet is enjoying a renaissance due to the popularity of retro sounds and the availability of new pads for the earlier models, most of which had been reduced to unplayability due to pad decay.

Despite the apparently Heath Robinson/Rube Goldberg nature of this arrangement, the Pianet was an immediate success, appearing on records from "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen to "She's Not There" by the Zombies.
A variety of Pianets were produced from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s, all using the same mechanism.
The Pianet T abandoned the sticky "sandwich" pads and electrostatic pickups, employing instead silicone rubber pads (supposedly a spin-off from NASA) and passive electromagnetic pickups.

 Hohner Pianet
The Hohner Pianet came from the same stable as the renowned Clavinet.
That said, it was a good little electric piano that found favour with Tony Banks (Genesis) and Chick Corea in the early days of their careers (Banks used one on 'Nursery Crime' and 'Foxtrot' but for some reason replaced it with the all electronic RMI ElectraPiano for the later Genesis albums).
Several Pianet models were manufactured but probably the most famous was the Pianet T which is featured in Nostalgia.

clavinet.de - The history of the Hohner Clavinet
The Pianet model "T" came much later and utilized the suction of a soft rubber pad onto the reed.
As all the reeds were damped upon release, this negated the possibility of obtaining sustain via a foot pedal.
In between the Pianet "N" and "T" models, Zachariah invented what was to become probably Hohner’s most successful, and certainly funkiest keyboard - The Clavinet.

 5. BIOLOGY OF SARDINELLA AURITA AND S. MADERENSIS
It is probably that there will be a variation in this relationship between years, as is suggested by the observation's of the same authors on the year-to-year variation of the condition factor (the weight, divided by the cube of the length) for each species (see following table).
Fontana and Pianet (1973) conclude that this species spawns only during the cold season, in waters in which the productivity has been increased by hydrographic phenomena such as upwelling.
The uneven distribution of spawning, both in space and in time (seasonally), is confirmed by the observations of Dessier and Pianet (1971) on the distribution of sardinella larvae in the area between Libreville and the Congo River, from May 1968 till July (8 cruises, 80 stations) (Tables 7a and 7b).

Test Pianets equipped with our new "Sticky Hammers" replicate the original, powerful bark of the Pianet, a far cry from the wimpy and soft sound we got using the original and decayed Hohner "Sticky Sandwich" pads.

The pre-amp was noisey and fragile and required an internal 9 volt battery.
The other (and superior) Pianet was the Pianet-T which had a durable tolex finish (hence the "T").
The N was designed to sit in people's houses as furnature and the T was designed to be taken on the road.

Sound is generated by an array of metal reeds which are plucked by foam pads, which have been impregnated with adhesive (actually a proprietary viscous silicone oil).
While popular with semi-pro musicians due to its low price and portability, it failed to make a significant impact on major recording artists.
Early Pianets were used on a number of hit recordings from the 1960s and 1970s, including She's Not There by The Zombies, Louie, Louie by The Kingsmen, I Am The Walrus by The Beatles, and Joy to the World by Three Dog Night.

The Pianet T pads however don't lift the reeds so high as without the sponge centre you would get an undesirable 'clunk' sound as the one-piece pad design damps the vigorously vibrating reed when the key is released.
This is also apparently the problem with the clavinet.com replacent pads for the Pianet N - they now lack the sponge-centre of the original pads and cause the horrible 'clunk' sound just described.
I love both my Pianets and whilst I can see why T owners desire the sound of a N (I myself as a T owner spent some time hunting one down!) the N is not a better instrument - just very different.

The Hohner Pianet is a pretty low-key little instrument.
Significantly smaller than the average Rhodes or Hammond, the Pianet has no volume control, no tonal controls and no mains connection.
This Hohner Pianet T model was sampled in two velocity layers with release samples that make this instrument sound very lifelike.

 Electric Pianos - FAQs
My Hohner Pianet T doesn’t sound anything like the Pianet on (insert name of favourite ‘60s recording here).
The problem is that the 1970s Pianet T uses completely different reeds, "pluckers", electronics and pickups from the 1960s Pianet N and Combo Pianet.
It may be an electronic piano (see "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" at the Hall), a digital piano, an organ with piano sounds or even a synthesiser or home keyboard.

The Pianet sounds very much like a Wurli without the tremelo.
You'll want to run the thing through something like a panscan, only taking one output of the Panscan for the tremelo effect.
There are good examples of the Pianet sound on the Hatfield and the North recordings from the 70s (first one in particular), if you happen to have any of those around.

BTW, I was playing around last night (after posting this) and got fairly close to the "Pianet N" sound you hear on The Beatles I Am The Walrus, but it's still not quite all there, and I'm actually looking for more of a "Pianet T" sound (but will take whatever I can get).
Be warned, I did these patches completely from memory (and I'm amnesic:-!))..so Pianet T or N? just be grateful if it makes its way into the Pianet alphabet at all!
Ben's been kind enough to post my few patches on the Banks/Patches page.As far as the Pianet is concerned, you might get some more mileage out of adjusting the "strength" knob.
