Piankhi & Taharqa   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Piankhi and Taharqa, led Ethiopia in an effort to regain control of Upper Egypt.
Twenty-three centuries before Piankhi and Taharqa, King Menes founded the first Egyptian dynasty, becoming the first Pharaoh of the world, uniting Upper and Lower Egypt under his leadership, and establishing Memphis as the first all-Black capital city, Thebes being the capital city of the North, or Upper Egypt.
The time period is 715 B.C., Piankhi and Taharqa have made strategic plans, quite similar to those used by Menes in 3100 B.C., to defeat the enemy.

 Piankhi_in_the_late_7th_Century
Ideally we should like to examine the source documents of Piankhi during these eventful years, and then compare the history of the times therein revealed with the contemporary history documented in the Babylonian Chronicle and in the Hebrew Bible.
It is claimed by historians that Piankhi left no documentation, other than his great stela, whereby we can reconstruct his activities during his Egyptian sojourn.
We may not be able to detail precisely the course of Piankhi's life during his first twenty years in office, but for the decades which follow the suppression of the Tefnakht rebellion we are blessed with abundant documentation.

If Piankhi, as we claim, then the fact must be supported by means others than a chronological synchronism, as was the case for Psamtik, though for Piankhi we can at least argue the possibility of such an adventure.
We have cross referenced these to the years of Piankhi on the assumption, yet to be proved, that the Egyptian army mentioned in several contexts belongs to him.
If, as we assume, Piankhi's 23nd year corresponds to the 10th year of Nabopolassar, his 24th must correspond to Nabopolassar's 11th and so on until the death of the Babylonian king in his 21st year, the 34th of Piankhi.

These half-negro conquerors gradually pushed their way northward from the upper Nile until, in 727 B.C., their king Piankhi was appealed to by several of the princes of the lower Nile to restore order in the country and especially to protect them from one of their own number, the energetic prince Tafnakhti.
Piankhi eagerly accepted the opportunity, and with his Ethiopian troops marched from end to end of Egypt, bringing peace where he could and fighting where he must.
The priests gladly welcomed Piankhi as the one strong man who could protect them and he was crowned as Pharaoh.
