Piano (in full, pianoforte), stringed instrument, with a keyboard derived from the harpsichord and clavichord, and hammers and strings derived from the dulcimer.
The compass of the early piano was, like that of the harpsichord, only four, or at most, five octaves, but it has gradually increased to a compass of more than seven octaves as structural changes allowed for increases in tension amounting to several tonnes.
Grand pianos are built in various sizes, from the full concert grand, 2.69 m (8 ft 10 in) long, to the baby grand, less than 1.8 m (6 ft) long.

 sonata
The sonata da chiesa, generally for one or more violins and bass, consisted normally of a slow introduction, a loosely fugued allegro, a cantabile slow movement and a lively finale in some such binary form as suggests affinity with the dance-tunes of the suite.
The sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti are a special type determined chiefly by those kinds of keyboard technique that are equally opposed, on the one hand, to contrapuntal style, and, on the other hand, to the supporting of melodies on a lifetess accompaniment.
Longo's complete collection of Scarlatti's sonatas shows that, short of the true developed sonata-style, there is nothing between the old sonata da chiesa and Beethovenishish experiments in unorthodox 'complementary keys' that Scarlatti does not carry off with a delightfully irresponsible "impressionism" that enables him to be modern in effect without any serious modern principle.

It is not known for certain exactly where and when Mozart composed the sonata - in Vienna or Salzburg in around 1783 is currently thought to be most likely, though Paris and dates as far back as 1778 have also been suggested.

This is not all of Mozart's piano music; one may regret that Phillips did not decide to go a bit further and include the rest of his piano music in this set.
Uchida uses finely graded dynamics in all the sonatas - from the soft, smooth playing of the adagios to the more energetic scores of the andantes, nothing shocks in these recordings; the interpretation seems to fit ideally with the music.

The organic quality of the Allegro is seen in the frequent recurrence in different guises of the two principal ideas of the opening theme: an extended rising triad and a falling scalic figure.
The first subject of the sonata form finale, too, is based on a short bar-long phrase rising up a position of the triad on each repetition.

A fortissimo in 1800 is no where near what it is today; on the Steinway you have to bring it down when playing music from this time period.
When comparing his performance to ones on modern pianos, he makes them sound surprisingly restrained; you can hear that the pianist is trying not to be too loud while Brautigam is giving it everything he has.

 trio sonata
The trio sonata is a musical form which was particularly popular around the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century.
A trio sonata is written for two solo melodic instruments and basso continuo, making three parts in all, hence the name trio sonata.
However, because the basso continuo is usually made up of at least two instruments (typically a cello or bass viol and a keyboard instrument such as the harpsichord), trio sonatas are typically performed by at least four instruments.
